Happy Year of the Dragon!  🐉

What is the "red envelope"? 🧧

The tradition of giving red envelopes during Chinese New Year, known as "Hongbao" in Mandarin, has its roots in an ancient legend. It's said that a demon named Sui terrorized children while they slept, and parents would try to keep their kids awake to protect them. However, one family discovered that giving their child a red envelope filled with coins would keep the demon away. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is believed to ward off evil spirits. This practice evolved into a custom where money is given in red envelopes during the Lunar New Year as a symbol of passing on good fortune and blessings!

Interestingly, this year marks the "Year of the Dragon" in the Chinese zodiac, a time often associated with strength, luck, and prosperity, making the giving of red envelopes even more special!
